1836 Sampler by Sarah Moores. Framed in a modern gold coloured wood frame with glass. Fixed to wood, with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours greens, cream, pale blue, black, gold and browns. Verse reads, 'Let gratitude in acts of goodness flow;>Our love is God, in love to man below.>Be this our joy to calm the troubled breast; Support the weak and succour the distrest;>Direct the wand'rer. dry the widow's tear.>The orphan guard, the sinking spirits cheer,>The small our pow'r to act, tho'mean our skill,>God sees the heart, he judges by the will.'. Signed and dated, 'Sarah Moores work done in the 10 Year of her age 1836'. A good set of motifs, including deer, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, fir trees, crowns, stags and peacocks
Good. Any fading, hole, stain, defect or stitch loss that may be present, is minor and not detracting.
