1831 Sampler by Ann Piggott. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Stitched to linen with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours browns, cream, red, green, pale blue, pink, orange, greens and black. Verse reads, 'Jesus permit thy sacred name to stand>As the first efforts of a youthful hand>And while her fingers on Canvas move>Engage her tender heart with ardent love'. Signed and dated, 'Ann Piggott Aged 12 Years 1831'. A wonderful set of motifs, including a lion, dogs, birds, flowers, trees, laden with fruit, rabbits, fruit baskets, fir trees, crowns, hearts, potted flowering plants and squirrels
Good. Any fading, hole, stain, defect or stitch loss that may be present, is minor and not detracting.
