Circa 1830 Partridge Sampler by Griscy Thortitons. Framed in an old, probably original, rosewood frame with rippled, old glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering strawberry border. Colours browns, pale blue, white, cream and greens. Verse reads, 'Teach me to live that i may dread>The grave as little as my bed>Teach me to die that so i may>With joy behold the judgment day'. 'Griscy thortitons work in the 14th Year of her age'. A wonderful set of motifs, including a large Partridge titled 'Partridge Bird', lions, dogs, a peacock, flowers, fruit baskets, hearts, two houses and birds.
Good. Any fading, hole, stain, defect or stitch loss that may be present, is minor and not detracting.
