1829 Sampler by Ann Waite. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering leafy border. Colours green, cream, blue, brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9 Verse reads, 'Idleness is the bane of everything. It is like the barren foil of which all labour and cultivation> are thrown away. The acquifition of Knowledge is one of the moft honourable occupations of> youth. Let integrity and uprightnefs preserve me. For I wait on thee'. Signed and dated, 'Ann Waite Aged 13 November 22 Anno Domino 1829'. A good set of motifs, including flowers, birds, potted flowering plants, deer, crowns, trees and butterflies
