1832 Spanish Sampler by Josefa Bartol. Framed in an old wood frame with conservation glass. Stitched to linen with card backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Meandering floral strawberry border. Colours pale blue, cream, light brown, yellow and greens. Alphabets A-Z in upper case, vowels, and numbers 1-13 Inscription reads, 'LE HIOZ MANUELA>R RECAS SIENDO>DISCIPULA DE DON A JOSEFA BARTOL INEL ANO DE 1832.'. Signed and dated ''. A scattering of motifs, including flowers and the 'IHS' symbol of Jesus Christ.

Condition Summary:

Very Good. Any fading, hole, stain, defect or stitch loss, if present, is very minor and in no way detracting.
