Antique Scottish Sampler by Christian Gram. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with cardboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk and a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Meandering floral border. Colours blues, cream, gold, pink, greens and red. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-10. Much of the lettering has wonderful curlicue embellishment - typical of Scottish samplers. Verse reads 'We praise thee,> O God: we acknow-> ledge thee to be the Lord.> All the earth doth> worfhip thee, the Father> everlafting.' Signed 'Chriftian Gram'. A scattering of motifs, including a dog, flowers, diamonds and a heart.
