1724 Sampler by Mary Bewly. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass. Fixed to card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours red, cream, gold, pink, green and blues. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-14. Verses read 'Let The Words Of my Mouth an>The Meditation Of my Heart Be>Acceptable In Thy Sight O Lord>my Strength And my Redeemer>Psalm The 19 Vers The Fourteen'. Signed and dated 'Mary BeWLy IS my Name And On England IS my Nation Newingt IS my Dwelling Place and Christ IS my Salvation Wrought By me And Finished In The Year Of Our Lord 1724'. A scattering of motifs, including a heart, crowns and a diamond shape.
