1839 House Sampler by Ann Norgrove. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours gold, cream, browns and greens. Verse reads 'Dear parents accept of my effort tho feeble>To shew you the progrefs Ive made with my needle>Of all faults that you see let my youth plead excuse>Ill endeavour to mend in the next I produce'. Signed and dated 'Ann Norgrove Aged 10 Years December 20 1839'. A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden, potted flowering plants, fir trees, dogs, flower basket and birds.
Generally good. Any fading, hole, stain, defect or stitch loss, when present, is not overly detracting.
