Description:

1832 Religious Irish Sampler by Mary Anne Enright. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, dimpled, old glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Floral border. Colours browns, cream, blue, gold, greens and black. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case. Inscription entitled 'THE BIBLE' reads 'HOLY BIBLE BOOK divine> PRECIOUS treasure thou art mine> Mine to tell me Whence I came> Mine to teach me what I am> Mine to chide me when I rove> Mine to shew a saviour's Love> Mine art thou to guide my feet> Mine to judge condemn acquit> Mine to comfort in distrefs> Mine to lead to Promises> Mine to warn of sinner's doom> Mine to teach that doom to shun> Mine to shew the living faith> Mine to triumph over death> Mine to tell of joys to come> Mine to bring an earnest home> Mine to point me to the road> Mine to lead my heart to God> O'thou precious Book divine> PRECIOUS treasure thou art mine' Verse entitled 'THE CHRISTIANs CONFIDENCE' reads 'GREAT Author of good to thee would I fly> When clouds gather blacknefs portending a ftorm> Be thou my protection and shield me from harm> From what thou haft done in years that are fled> What blefsing thy love upon me hath fled> O help me to trust thee nor dubt of thy care> When dangers furround me thy love will be there> Should forrow and pain and poverty join> Should friends turn away and with foes fhould combine> Wei fure of thy favours my covenant God> Id trust in thy goodnefs and bow to thy rod> Should mortal disease bring death to my view> And should I be cast'd the dark vale to go through> Its gloom and its shadows shall all disappear> My Father my Guardian my God will be there> My spirit emerg'd from this dwelling of clay> With pleasures untold fhall wing its glad way> And take full pofsefsion of that glorious throne> And call all the treasures of heaven my own> My own through the purchase of Jesus blood> My own through the mercy and goodnefs of God'.
