Description:

Antique Georgian Silkwork Embroidery Picture, depicting George III and an Angel. Framed in an old, possibly original, gilded, gesso frame. Rippled, old glass cover. Fixed to wood, with a paper backing. The embroidery is worked in silk, on a silk ground, in a variety of stitches with painted details. Colours greens, cream, light brown, gold, black, blues and pink. Pictorial scene depicts an angel blowing a trumpet/horn, unveiling a potrait of George III. A ribbon reads, 'GEORGUIS III DEI GRATIA REX' meaning 'King George III by the Grace of God'. No signature or date. This embroidery was possibly made to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of George III, in October 1809.

Condition Summary:
