Pair of Staffordshire figures with a military theme which feature two generals each holding a flag, seated on horseback. The pieces are titled, ''G. BROWN' and 'GNL SIMPSON'' to the fronts. Dull gilt titles and embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse. This piece represents Sir James Simpson (1792-1868) served with the Grenadier Guards during the Peninsular War of 1812-1813. Sir Brown George (1790-1865) served in Peninsular War of 1851 and was awarded a knighthood. Book reference ,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 131, figure 329.
