| Description: | Staffordshire figure with a royalty theme which features Prince Alfred beside a chair, a sword in his hand, stood on an oval base. The piece is titled, 'PR.ALFRED' . Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse. This piece represents Prince Alfred, the son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 190, figure 621. |
| Condition: | Generally good. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of stray coloured glaze to his face; a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the ground between his feet; shrinkage line along the mold join to inside of left leg. RESTORATION: Head reglued and join retouched. Stabilized and retouched hairline to his coat running to his trousers. Retouching to paint losses to the chair and his hair and shoes. |
