Pair Staffordshire figures holding harps with cat & dog

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Pair of Staffordshire figures with a musical theme which feature a girl and a boy both next to a harp, one with a cat and the other with a dog seated in front, stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 395, figure 1571/1572.
Condition: Male: Good. A few paint losses to ground. Some rubbing to gilt. Slight staining to the front and reverse of seat. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the reverse. RESTORATION. Filled chip to top of harp and base at the reverse. Retouched paint losses to harp, shoes and dog. Female: Generally good. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: over glazed shrinkage line to the top of cat's head; piece of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the underside. RESTORATION. Top half of girl and harp as well as girl's head, reglued and join retouched. Retouched paint losses to hair, shoes, harp, cat and cushion. Filled chip to her nose. Retouched shrinkage cracks to front of base.
