Large Staffordshire Otter hunter spill vase

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Staffordshire spill vase with a hunting theme which features an otter hunter, his dogs and otter, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 76, figure 1913.
Condition: Good. Some flaking to shredded clay. Small flakes to reverse, hunter's buttons, standing dog's left ear and right hind leg. A few paint losses to hunter's sash and hem of waistcoat. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to just above one dog's front left leg, one also to top of base running under other dog's front left leg; two tiny glaze pops to hunter's face; network of shrinkage cracks to underside; a fleck of stray coloured glaze to recumbent dog's nose. RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched hairline to left side of hunter's left boot (still slightly visible). Filled and retouched chip to reverse rim of spill. Retouched flake to horn and paint losses to boots, ground and spill vase
