Sherratt Staffordshire Cow & Serpent figure

Period: pre-Victorian, circa 1830
Description: Obadiah Sherratt Staffordshire pearlware figure with a pastoral theme which features a cow being bitten by a snake, stood on an oval rainbow base. Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Book reference,'Sherratt? A Natural Family of Staffordshire Figures', by Malcolm & Judith Hodkinson, page 56, figure Plate 1.
Condition: Generally good. Small flake to top of bocage. A few paint losses to base. KILN EFFECTS: firing cracks to the cow's hind legs and udder; shrinkage cracks along the mold join to the base of trunk. RESTORATION. Right ear and horn remodelled. Tail reglued and join retouched. Tree completely remodelled.
