Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature an old lady with her pets and an old gent having tea, seated on a shaped base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front. Open bottomed. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 295, figure 3331/3332.
Condition: Female: Generally good. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and reverse; a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the top of the base. RESTORATION: Lady broken in half, body reglued join retouched. Retouched paint losses to the orange enamel. Male: Generally good. A few paint losses to his left trouser leg. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and reverse; a few tiny specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to saucer and table top; shrinkage crack to the front of the base and a few to the underside; small firing holes to his left hand, left side of jacket, top of base and reverse. RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to the orange enamel.
