Staffordshire boy & girl with boat spill vase

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Staffordshire spill vase with a childhood theme which features a boy and girl with a toy sailing boat, seated on an oval base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front. Maker's marks painted to the underside. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 3, by A.& N. Harding, page 206, figure a2199D.
Condition: Generally good. Small flake to lower base edge at reverse. Some paint losses to boy's cape and girl's hat feathers. Rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing; small firing pit inside spill rim. RESTORATION: Top of sail and bow of boat remodelled. Stabilised and retouched crack to across girl's left shoe, running around to the reverse. Retouched paint losses to girl's skirt, cape, hair, shoes and to boy's cape. Old restoration to top half of spill.
