Staffordshire zebra with girl spill vase

Period: Victorian, circa 1880
Description: Staffordshire figure which features a girl with a zebra carrying fruit baskets in front of a spill, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Bright gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Book reference not found.
Condition: Good. No restoration. Some small flakes to brim of girl's hat and top of spill. Minor paint loss to girl's hair and zebra's nose. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing; shrinkage lines to the base edge; a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the reverse; shrinkage line along the mold join to the left side of the spill.
