Large Matched Pair Staffordshire cats with glass eyes
Item ID# 17539
Period: Victorian, circa 1890
Description: Pair of Staffordshire glass eyed figures which feature a cat, seated directly on the ground, no base. We think they have possibly been matched up together at some stage because they both face the same direction. However, we feel they display very well together. Grey version. Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference not found.
Condition: Right facing: Good. Some rubbing to gilt. RESTORATION. Retouched flakes and bruise to mouth and nose. Replacement glass eyes. Left facing: Good. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the cat's face; over glazed shrinkage line to the top of the cat's head. RESTORATION. Replacement glass eyes.
Dimensions: Tallest is 13ins high, 7.1ins wide, 8.7ins depth
