Pair Staffordshire spaniels on gilt decorated bases

Description: Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel, seated on a shaped base. Russet and white version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 190, figure 2528/2529.
Condition: Right facing: Generally good. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the upper base and base rim; glaze accumulation to the base at reverse; notable crazing (more pronounced than other dog). RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to russet markings. Retouched flakes to bridge of nose and top of spaniel's left ear. Filled chips to inside of base edge. Left facing: Generally good. Some wear to dog's head and base. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the dog's back and base; small firing pits to spaniel's left ear and muzzle. RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to dog's face and base. Retouched flakes to russet markings. Stabilised and retouched hairline to right front ankle. Filled chips to base edge.
