Staffordshire hen with chicks tureen

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Staffordshire tureen with cover which features a hen with her seven chicks. One of the chicks is perched on her back, the others peep out from underneath, resting on a shaped base. We think they have possibly been matched up together at some stage because they are of significantly different sizes. Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Book reference not found.
Condition: Dish: Good. Some small flakes around the rim. KILN EFFECTS: small shrinkage line to the rim; RESTORATION: retouching to paint losses. Cover: Good. KILN EFFECTS: a couple of shrinkage cracks to the flange; faint shrinkage line to the hen's tail feathers. RESTORATION: retouching to paint losses.
