Staffordshire Fox & Bird spill vase

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Staffordshire spill vase which features a fox carrying a bird, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 3, by A.& N. Harding, page 268, figure a2964A.
Condition: Generally good. Two small flakes to tip of one leaf. Paint loss to one of the flowers. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the front of the base; slight staining to the reverse; a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the bird and fox. RESTORATION. Spill reglued and join retouched. Stabilised and retouched hairline to spill. Retouched paint losses to ground, fox's head at reverse and his nose. Fox's right ear remodelled. Filled and retouched chip to left ear.
