Description: Staffordshire egg tureen with cover which features a hen, resting on a basket weave oval base. Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 231, figure 2828.
Condition: Hen: Good. KILN EFFECTS: a few flecks of stray coloured glaze; some craze lines. RESTORATION: Filled chip to inner rim. Retouching to paint losses to eyes, wattle, comb and markings. Nest: Good. KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing; stilt marks to upper rim; a few specks of stray coloured glaze to the interior. RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched crack to rim. Filled chip to rim.
