| Pair of Staffordshire spill vases which feature a girl and a boy each beside a spaniel with a pup, stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Book reference not found. |
| Female: Good. Two very tight hairlines to spill rim. Small chip to shredded clay on one branch. Very slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: shallow firing crack to the spill just above spaniel's head; staining to the spaniel's chest; over glazed bruise to the reverse of hat. RESTORATION: Filled chip to rim of spill. Stabilised and retouched crack to front of base. Male: Good. A few paint losses to orange sash. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: glaze run to the cobalt blue glaze; slightly stained crazing to the reverse; over glazed shrinkage line to the front of base. RESTORATION: Filled chip to spill rim. |
