Staffordshire girl on spaniel's back figure

Period: Victorian, circa 1860
Description: Staffordshire figure with a royalty theme which features a spaniel with a young girl lying on its back, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent holes to the underside. This piece probably represents a Princess with her pet. Maker's marks painted to the underside. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 147, figure 2244.
Condition: Good. Rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to the dog's left hind leg; over glazed shrinkage lines to the dog's chest and behind its left front leg and the girl's neck; small firing pit to dog's nose. RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses to dog's markings and girl's shoes.
