| Description: | c.1845 Woolwork Sampler by Isabella Taylor. Framed in an old ebonised wood frame with glass. Fixed to acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours magenta, blue, red, pale green, dark brown, purple, pink, olive green and brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Signed and dated 'Isabella Taylor aged 10 in the year of our Lord 184?'. A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, a lion, dog, castle, fruit baskets, squirrel, crowns, peacock and birds. |
| Condition: | Fair. A number of holes. No stains. Stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the signature, motifs and letters/numbers. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Unevenly stretched. Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'. |
| Dimensions: | 23.25ins by 15.75ins wide |
