Period: William IV, dated 1832
Description: 1832 Sampler by Mary Tapper. Unframed. The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Simple line border. Colours red, yellow, pale blue, light brown, pink, orange, ochre and olive green. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Verse reads 'The school of>Experience teaches>Many useful lessons'. Signed and dated 'Done by Mary Tapper at A stockton School Aug 3 1832 Agd 10'. A scattering of motifs, including trees, laden with fruit, diamond shapes and flowers.
Condition: Good. No holes. One dark stain speck. Stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the signature, motifs and letters/numbers. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
