Description: 1802 Hipping Hall Quaker Sampler by Eliza Susanna Tatham. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass. Tacked over card with black paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Simple oval line border. Stitched in red. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12. Signed and dated 'HIPPING HALL Eliza Susanna Tatham 1802'. Hipping Hall is now a country house hotel near Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria. It was originally the family home of the Tathams.
Condition: Generally Good. A number of holes. A few pale patchy stains. Some stitch losses to the border, divider lines and letters/numbers. Colour is slightly faded but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
