Description: 1728 Apostles' Creed Band Sampler by Ann Burton. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours cream, magenta, green and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-12. Verse reads 'I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER> ALMIGHTY MAKER OF HEAVEN> AND EARTH AND IN JESUS CHRIST> HIS ONLY SON OUR LORD WHO> WAS CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY> GHOST BORN OF THE VIRGIN> MARY SUFFERED UNDER PON> TYUS PILATE WAS CRUCIFIED> DEAD AND BURIED HE DESCEND> ED INTO HELL THE THIRD DAY> HE ROSE A GAIN FROM THE DEAD> HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN AND> SITTETH ON THE RIGHT HAND> OF GOD THE FATHER ALMIGHTY> FROM THENCE HE SHALL COME TO> JUDGE THE QUICK AND THE DEAD> I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY GHOST THE> HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH THE> COMMUNION OF SAINTS THE RESUR> RECTION OF THE BODY AND THE> LIFE EVERLASTING AMEN'. This version is from the Church of England's 'Book of Common Prayer' (1662). Signed and dated 'ANN BURTON HER S 1728'. A few motifs including crowns, diamonds, and hearts.
Condition: Good. Two small holes. A few stains. Stitch losses to the divider lines. Some colours very faded making them difficult to read. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
