| Description: | Large 1799 Silkwork Map Sampler by Sarah Pope. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards behind green mount card, on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, pale green, gold, white, pink, black and blue. Signed and dated 'Sarah.Pope 1799'. Floral and compass motifs. Depicts a map of England and Wales with surrounding seas, oceans and channels. The map includes county names and major towns within the counties. |
| Condition: | Generally Good. Several small holes. Some dark staining behind the map. Some stitch losses to the border and motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading, the silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. |
