| Description: | 1842 Sampler by Alice Walsh. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering leafy border. Colours red, cream, yellow, light brown, dark brown, black, pink, purple, pale blue and orange. Inscription reads 'Thou God seets me'. Signed and dated 'Alice Walsh Aged 10 Years.'. A good set of motifs, including one entitled 'South East view of saint marks church Witton' (Witton is a town in Lancashire, UK), a dog, birds, a house, fir tree,sailing ship and potted flowering plants. |
| Condition: | Good. One small hole. One dark stain spot. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. |
