| Description: | 1819 Sampler by Susannah Fuller. Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wood frame with glass. Glued around the extreme edges only, not at all visible from the front, to a board with wood with brown paper backing. The sampler is worked in fine wool and cotton-like thread on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours blue, yellow, pale green, light brown, dark brown, light green, pale blue and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-14. Inscription reads 'Remember Lots wife'. Verse reads 'Not everY one that>faith unto me Lord>Lord fhall enter into>the kingdom of heaven>but he that doeth the>will of my Father>which is in heaven'. Signed and dated 'Susannah Fuller Ended>this Sep.br 25 1819'. A scattering of motifs, including hearts and diamonds. |
| Condition: | Good. No holes. A couple of pale patchy stains, barely visible. Minor stitch losses to the divider lines. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Unevenly stretched. Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'. |
