Majolica sea horse sweetmeat dish

Period: Victorian, circa 1890
Description: Majolica sweetmeat dish, modeled as a grey mythological sea horse (hippocampus) with a shell shaped dish resting on its back. Ground naturalistically molded to look like waves. Turquoise glaze to shell interior. Ochre glaze to underside with green painted mark.
Condition: Fair. No cracks. No hairlines. Chip to rim of dish and base by right hoof. Flaking to hooves, ears, mane, tip of tail, base and rim of dish. Kiln effect: uneven glaze application to interior of dish and horse. Old restoration of right hoof and small part of tail at top.
Dimensions: 4.5ins high by 7ins wide
