George Jones Majolica mackerel fish tureen

Period: Victorian, circa 1870
Description: George Jones Majolica mackerel fish tureen with cover. Tureen in the form of a basket with pink interior. Cover is decorated with a mackerel fish lying on a bed of fern leaves and reeds. Two vent holes and stilt marks to underside of cover. Three stilt marks to mottled base of tureen. Impressed maker's marks including the 'GJ' monogram and painted pattern number '3274' in reserve to base of tureen.
Condition: Good. Tureen: Slight flaking to basket exterior. Slight wear to rim. Kiln effect: some small glaze pops. Restored chip to one end. Retouched flake to inner rim. Cover: Very minor flaking to the fish's mouth. Slight wear to fish's body. Kiln effects: couple of shrinkage lines to reverse, not visible on top. Repair to tail. Cover is not a perfect fit to the tureen.
