Staffordshire figures, Pair, jockeys on horseback

Pair of Staffordshire jockeys on horseback. Old dull mercurial gilt line bases and decoration, creamy glaze, horses have near back leg molded free. Vent holes to the reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 3314/3315 on page 291 of Schiffer's 'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. CONDITION: Good. No hairlines. No chips. Minor paint losses to the jockey's hair and to the colored enamel of both pieces, worst illustrated. Gilt slightly rubbed to the right facing. Staining to the back of the left facing, illustrated. Kiln effects: a firing crack to the hat and above the jockey's foot of right facing, illustrated and to the horse's back legs of left facing, barely visible from the front, illustrated, some small pieces of kiln detritus adhering to the base of left facing, illustrated. Professional restoration to the right facing jockey's waist where he has been off and to a crack on the horse's chest, illustrated. The restoration is of a high standard and does not catch the eye.
