Staffordshire pipe smoking spaniel

Rare Staffordshire figure of a black and white spaniel smoking a pipe and seated on a turquoise rococo style base. Front legs molded free. Old dull mercurial gilt collar and locket. Decorated all round. Vent hole underneath. Similar piece illustrated on page 133, "A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs" by Clive Mason Pope.. CONDITION: Good. No restoration. No cracks. No hairlines. One shallow chip to foot rim. Bruise to front of foot rim. Minor flakes to base, elbow, pipe and back of head. Gilt slightly rubbed. Kiln effect: crazing.
