Minton Majolica monkey, cockerel & snail teapot
|
Minton Majolica novelty teapot with the handle in the form of a monkey at the back, holding reins which go around the teapot and over the head of a cockerel, which forms the spout. The cover has a snail on top, which forms the finial. Cobalt ground with a circular foliate medallion on either side of the teapot. Three green feet to the base. Turquoise interior. Pattern number '624' incised underneath the teapot.. CONDITION: Good. No restoration. No cracks. No hairlines. No chips. No flakes. A couple of small scratches to the cobalt ground. Kiln effect: one tiny shrinkage line to the bridge of the monkey's nose. Kiln soot caught in the glaze to interior, and to a much lesser effect, on the exterior.
